How should you dress for a trail ride?

We recommend you always dress in layers. You can always take layers off.

Closed toe shoes or boots to protect your feet from mud and rocks. 

What personal items should you Pack for the trail ride?

  • Trash Bag
  • Tick/Bug Repellent
  • An extra set of clothing and shoes in case you get wet or muddy

360 Walk Around & Things You Should Check Before Hitting The Trail

  • Make sure your battery is in fastened and in healthy condition
  • Hoses are in good condition
  • Oil and Fluids are filled to optimal level
  • Check all 5 tires, be sure they are in good condition and have the proper tire pressure
  • Make sure all of your lights are functioning properly.

Please Note: Effective 2021 in order to attend any Off Road Events with RVA Jeep Wave we require that you have completed the free “Tread Lightly!” Certification and you must have a CB Radio or Hand Held Walkie so you can follow all instructions given to the group by the guide.

Understanding Trail Level Difficulty Ratings

1-2

EASY

This rating indicates a trail that’s suitable for the undertaking of a beginner or novice enthusiast. Obstacles and ground terrain should be easy to negotiate and in ideal weather conditions, you may not require continual engagement of you 4WD.

3-5

MODERATE

This range is still suitable for the beginner or novice off-roader. The driver may encounter obstacles on this trail that may include boulders, mud holes and streams. Trails of this level will generally require the use of 4WD with Low range.

6-7

DEMANDING

This range is still suitable for the beginner or novice off-roader. The driver may encounter obstacles on this trail that may include boulders, mud holes and streams. trails of this level will generally require the use of 4WD with Low range.

8-9

VERY CHALLENGING

PLEASE NOTE: In this range, the likelihood of your progress being stalled or impaired by an obstacle is very high. Off-roaders should not attempt this level of trail alone. Climbs, mud holes and obstacles on trails of this range are considerably difficult to overcome. Lifts and Lockers are highly recommended 4WD with Low range is definite requirement, Trails of this level are NOT suitable for the novice enthusiast.

MOST DIFFICULT

RESERVED FOR ONLY THE MOST EXPERIEDNCED AND EXPERT LEVEL OFF-ROADER.  Not recommended for Jeep Patriot, Compass, Liberty, Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, or Commander. 4WD with Low range required. Off-roaders should not attempt this level of trail alone. This difficulty level includes the most challenging off-road adventure in the U.S.A: The Rubicon Trail.
